FNA Biopsy Scheduled

FNA is fine needle aspiration.  April 12th is when I go in for it.  Was hoping for something sooner, but that's the earliest they have.

I see my endo on April 3rd.

I'm so happy to be back on my regular eating plan!

4 Thin Mints and decaf Espresso HEB coffee is my nightly snack till I eat all my Thin Mints.  So yum!  And just 160 calories!

So for a couple weeks everything is back to normal.  Hoping to lose a couple more pounds before the biopsy.  I'm at 208/209 right now.

The Uptake Test and some other test I don't know the name of - Updated

This morning I went to the hospital at 7:30, took an iodine pill at 8:05 ish.  Was told not to eat or drink for an hour.

At 1 went back to hospital and had a 5 minute 'picture' taken of my thyroid, then a 10 minute, then another 10 minute on left side, then 10 more minutes on right side of thyroid.  The camera moved, I just got to lay there.

The photos looked like blurry glowing ink blots to me.

Then into another room to sit and have this thing against my neck to measure the amount of iodine my thyroid absorbed - that's the actual uptake test.  2 two minute sessions, then 2 more two minute sessions of the thing pointed at my thigh to measure how much my body still had in it.  He couldn't show me the results of that which is a bummer.

Tomorrow morning I go back to have the uptake test redone.  I'm waiting on a call back from my doctor saying that I can go back to NutriSystem tomorrow and also to see whether I can start my pill back tomorrow or whether to wait till Friday morning.

Overall it wasn't a bad experience, but I really do not want to go through this every year.  So fingers crossed all the nodules are happy non-cancer nodules.

3/22
So this whole thing is called an Uptake and Scan.

After this morning's uptake I was able to get back on my meds and an hour later eat my NutriSystem breakfast.  It feels so good to be eating real food!

My endocrinologist already has the results.  There is a questionable area on the left side of my thyroid.  So she's scheduling a biopsy.

My wonderful friend, Amanda, who's gone through this already said the biopsy will be an ultrasound guided needle.  So not very invasive.

I just gotta breathe and not stress about possibly missing more work.  <3

The Rollercoaster

Now that I know what I have and why I get exhausted - I don't fight it.

Saturday was a decent day.  I didn't go for my walk, puttered around the house instead.  I strained my back Thursday evening, so resting it was important to me.  Since Friday walking, sitting, breathing hurt.

Sunday was a completely different animal.  I woke up at 610am, fed everybody and let them out, went back to bed till 10, let everybody out, ate, had coffee, sat outside for about 10 minutes, got hot, came inside, fell asleep sitting on sofa till 2, ate again, went to my comfy bed till 545pm, fed everybody, let them all out, I think I ate.  Stayed up long enough to take a shower, change the sheets, and back in bed.

Lost another large amount of hair while showering and even brushing my hair this morning.  No bald spots yet though.  :-)

I feel fine today.  Even have the hyper, happy leg thing going on.

2 1/2 more days of egg whites and then I'm back to my NutriSystem!  Hurray!  And my meds!  Hurray!  And maybe remembering where I put stuff - Hurray!

Look who showed up on St. Patrick's Day!

No sound, none needed.  The only thing someone might wonder about is when I shrug my shoulders and cringe a bit.  I accidentally dropped my cell on Mort.

After watching this I can't get over how curious Cesar is about this package.  Even after he figures out it's not food!

Unmedicated Hashimoto's Sucks

Still can't get warm, still tired, still achy, and this morning I felt like crying for no reason whatsoever.  My Director told me a silly joke and made me laugh which helped.

My neck gets itchy every so often around my glands and ear tubes.

And the top of my right foot is the coldest feeling part of my body.  But if you touch it, it's not cold.  It just feels like it's cold to me.

I have been able to talk to a friend that had 1/2 her thyroid removed and everything I'm going through is 'normal'.

And the hair loss!  Holy crap it's bad.

I can't believe that I'm actually looking forward to going back on my pills.  I hate pills.  But I know this one will help with a lot of my symptoms.

It's weird when my body tries to have a hot flash, but the the cold in me is like, "Nope, ain't happenin."

There are 3 boxes of Thin Mints in my freezer just waiting for me to be done with this test.  Then my evening snack will be 2 Thin Mints a night.  WOOT!!

Not a Good Day Yesterday

I felt tired all day.  And a little achy.  Almost like caffeine withdrawal, but not as bad.

And I can not get warm.

I've also lost over 2 pounds since I started the low iodine diet 2 1/2 days ago.  That's not good.

Dinner yesterday was so very yummy!  My egg whites and an avocado sliced up.  So delicious.

I've not been hungry, but I have gotten tired of eating.

Between changing my eating habits, winter coming back, and the pollen still being out - my body is not happy.  Though I'm happier being cold than hot.

I've got a banana in the window I've been trying to get ripe since yesterday.  :-)

I did 1/2 the amount of walking yesterday I normally do.  But at least I got out there and walked.

Day 2 - Low Iodine Diet

Egg whites are my new best friend.  1/3 cup, pop in microwave, TADA! fluffy protein.

Breakfast and lunch were the same thing, but lunch I doubled my smart carbs.  Eggs and canned peaches.

My snack was a little unsalted peanut butter.  That stuff is sticky!  I'm still finding some of it tucked in my mouth in spots.

Afternoon snack is an apple and the peanut butter.

Dinner will be egg whites and pineapple.

Canned chicken is a definite no.  And it appears that 'prepared' oatmeal is also a no.  If I find that the egg whites aren't filling me up enough, I'll go get some chicken and some real oatmeal and just throw some fresh fruit in it.

I feel a lot better about this today than I did yesterday.  But when I get to go back to NutriSystem - it's going to be absolute heaven eating Fiesta Mac & Cheese!

First Meal - Low Iodine Diet in Preparation for Uptake Test

This part will be a repeat for those that know me - I do not like grocery shopping, meal planning, or cooking.  Some folks do - I definitely do not.  That's the main reason I chose NutriSystem as my eating plan.  Box o' food shows up, counselors do not bother me, and I eat.

The imaging center called today and scheduled my uptake test.  What I didn't know is that I have to go in for the pill or shot then 24 hours later go back for the actual scan.  I thought my doctor would prescribe the pill.

The first visit is 2 weeks from tomorrow.

So I went grocery shopping today.  I got everything I wanted except chicken.  I can always get it later if I really want to.  But I can only have 5 oz. of meat max a day.  I'm going to look at the canned chicken, also research it online, to see if I can get that instead of fresh chicken.

Tonight I had 1/3 cup egg whites (equivalent to 2 large eggs), red seedless grapes, and steamed zuchini and yellow squash.  Dessert will be a mango.  The egg whites I microwaved for a minute and they turned out wonderfully fluffy!  I'm still nibbling at the squash and grapes.

I have unsalted peanut butter to go with my apple for 1 of my snacks tomorrow.

What I'm doing is using the flex meals of NutriSystem to determine how many power fuels and how many smart carbs per meal to eat.  Veggies - I still have to consume 4 servings of those.

I'm able to eat oatmeal, but the thing I read didn't say whether 'pure' oatmeal or the packaged, flavor stuff.

I'm going to be eating a lot of egg whites!  :-)

Dogs Updates

Cesar at 14 is doing well.  He's got a definite limp/swagger when he walks.  That has to do with the herniated disk in his back - I thin...
